Environmentally Mindful Aerosol Products
In 2014 alone, more than 1.045 billion household cleaning products sold in the United States consumer market.
Aluminum and steel aerosol products accounted for nearly 931 million of the total products sold.
Cleaning products including room sprays, disinfectants, laundry products, glass, oven, rug, fabric, wall, and tile cleaners have flooded the market and made their way into millions of Americans’ homes.
Consumer Pressures on Aerosols
As Americans become more environmentally conscious of their consumer footprint, they have pressured aerosol and cleaning product companies to be more forthcoming about the chemicals and substances in their goods.
This consumer pressure incentivized these companies to create simple, convenient, and multi-functional, multi-surface disinfectants and cleaners.
Easy to Use Aerosol Products
Consumes appreciate products that are easy to use, convenient, and effective. Now, they especially enjoy products that have antibacterial properties that can safely be used around other food or frequently handled household items.
Products such as Clorox Pump & Clean for the kitchen or bathroom were specifically designed to not leave harsh chemical residue behind. This helps make the products safer for every-day use.
A Different Aerosol Approach
Other companies such as SC Johnson have taken a different approach in response to consumers wanting to know more about the products they use. Instead of just making products more multi-functional and safer for consumers, SC Johnson has also implemented a plan to disclose the chemicals and contents of its products.
Although SC Johnson started with its fragrance line, the company intends to continue its disclosure for other product groups, including: Pledge, Windex, and Scrubbing Bubbles among others.
Consumer Aerosol Products
Although it is somewhat difficult for companies to release the entire chemical and content list of each product – as the formulas are unique and companies want to protect their product compositions – SC Johnson has set about releasing the largest components of each product. This will help consumers better understand what they are actually using and allow them to research the possible effects of these products.
Aerosol’s Environmental Footprint
With the continued advancement of technology added to consumers pushing for safer products, aerosols and other in-home cleaning products have become safer and more health friendly than ever before.
Bag-on-valve products, recyclable containers, and redesigned caps have greatly improved the overall safety and lessened the environmental footprint of aerosol products, making them extremely consumer friendly.
